Alison Van Uytvanck marries partner Emilie Vermeiren

FLASHBACK: Sidelined shortly after with a back injury, Alison van Uytvanck lost to eventual finalist Caroline Garcia in Lyon.

Love was in the air this weekend for Belgian WTA pro Alison Van Uytvanck. During Wimbledon finals weekend, the 29-year-old Belgian married her partner, Emilie Vermeiren, in front of family and friends.

"Finally being able to call you my wife is a wish that came true," Van Uytvanck wrote, captioning an Instagram carousel posted Sunday that chronicled their nuptials. "It was a perfect day celebrating with our family and friends. We all love you!"

She signed off on the post, "Mrs&Mrs Van Uytvanck-Vermeiren."

Van Uytvanck went public with her relationship with Vermeiren last spring during Roland Garros, posting a photo of the two in front of the Eiffel Tower with the caption, "From Paris with love." Previously, she had been in a long-term relationship with fellow WTA pro Greet Minnen, also of Belgium, before the two called off their engagement in the fall of 2021.

During their relationship, Minnen and Van Uytvanck had been advocates for the LGBTQ+ community in tennis, routinely speaking out about their lives as lesbians on tour, and their journeys towards living openly. When Van Uytvanck upset then-defending champion Garbiñe Muguruza at Wimbledon in 2018, she and Minnen shared a courtside kiss that was seen around the world.

Van Uytvanck has been sidelined since February with back problems, which Belgian media has reported as career-threatening. In April, the former world No. 37 shared an injury update on social media, saying that she was exhausting all medical options in her search for treatment, and planned to make use of an injury-protected ranking if and when she returned to court.
