American Roundup: Taylor Fritz flies at the Rolex Paris Masters

Every week, American players from the ATP and WTA tours step up to the plate around the world. Here are the top American movers and shakers that shone brightest this week:

1. Taylor Fritz

Quarterfinalist, Rolex Paris Masters

Taylor Fritz may not have defeated Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinals of Paris, but the American still put on a show. This was the best run in Paris for Fritz. His previous best was a trip to the second round in 2019. During the tournament, Fritz defeated Indian Wells champion Cameron Norrie and secured a straight-sets victory over world No. 6 Andrey Rublev.

2. Madison Brengle

Champion, Michigan (WTA 125 Series)

Madison Brengle put on a near-flawless performance in Michigan the past week. The No. 1 seed won the Dow Tennis Classic title, defeating fellow American Robin Anderson in straight sets. During the week, Brengle dropped only one set in five matches, losing the first set to Asia Muhammad in the first round. This is the second Midland title for Brengle who previously won the Dow Tennis Classic in 2018.

3. Stefan Kozlov

Champion, Virginia (ATP Challenger 80)

On Sunday, Stefan Kozlov won the Charlottesville Men's Pro Challenger title. The American took out Aleksander Vukic in a straight-set victory that took just over an hour. Kozlov is now back in the ATP Top 200 and is currently in the lead for a wildcard to the 2022 Australian Open. Kozlov dropped only one set during the week, the second-set against fellow American J.J. Wolf.

One of the best rallies of the year for the American came in the second round against Jason Kubler.

4. Emma Navarro

Champion, Florida (ITF W25)

Emma Navarro won her first professional singles title on Sunday. The American already has a NCAA singles national championship from her time at the University of Virginia. Now the 20-year-old sophomore has her foot firmly in the professional game. Navarro moved past Allie Kiick in the final—dropping the first set, but managed to recover to post a three-set win.
