It didn't take long for the first fashion statement to be made at Wimbledon this year. At a tournament often known for its gray skies and dreary weather, Fabio Fognini's bleach-blonde hair shone brighter than the sun on Court 16.

The 37-year-old former Top 10 player debuted his platinum locks earlier last month, and asked his followers on social media to rate the look from 1 to 10. But everything's bigger at Grand Slams—including the viral reaction to the mercurial Italian's choice to turn his dark tresses platinum.

One social media user even declared it "the best Fabio Fognini has ever looked."

Others wrote that the Italian pulled off a flawless tribute to some notable names in pop culture, though they couldn't agree on exactly whom.

Picks included Billy Idol, the titular protagonist of the anime series Naruto, Beavis from MTV's Beavis and Butthead, and even Bart Simpson.

Whatever the inspiration for Fognini's "epic" look, it's not going away any time soon—even if, as one X (formerly Twitter) user put it, he's "ready for Ibiza."

He started his 14th Wimbledon main-draw campaign with a 6-1, 6-3, 7-5 win over French lucky loser Luca Van Assche. He'll face No. 8 seed Casper Ruud in the second round.
