Fashion Rewind, Valentine’s Day: Fall in love with these iconic pink outfits from seasons past

Tennis fashion continues breaking barriers in both the men’s and women’s tours, but who knows where it's going next. During the Aussie Swing, we saw koala shirts and multi-colored swirls alike dominating the courts, while flashy custom kits seem to be on the rise, too. But this Valentine’s Day we're throwing it back and highlighting our favorite pink (or red) outfits from seasons past.

Whether it's giving "Barbie" or "Be Mine", check out Baseline's roundup of all the kits we've fallen for over the years:

First up is Marta Kostyuk’s 2024 Australian Open dress by Wilson. Call it recency bias or not, but the pink Tiebreaker dress played well with the Melbourne blue to highlight both Kostyuk and her game all the way to her first Grand Slam quarterfinal.

It was allmost as pink-ified as this unforgettable Grigor Dimitrov 2018 peachy pink Nike kit, which also debuted Down Under. Either fashion brands look to kick off the calendar year with a bang, or something’s in the water over there.

Shoutout to Kyle Edmund as well, as his Australian Open quarterfinal matchup against Dimitrov truly tested viewership retinas when both Nike pinks faced off.

Last year, Nike brought the pink back again in a big way when Carlos Alcaraz took center court at Indian Wells.

Contrasting well with the desert backdrop in California, the pink shirt and pale yellow shorts shined almost as brightly as the Spaniard’s celebration when he won the championship point for his third Masters 1000 title.

Speaking of bright pink and yellow, let's crank it up a notch.

There’s no fashion rewind without a look back at the Williams sisters and their iconic fashion statements over the years—including this memorable pink Nike dress with black illusion slits that Serena Williams wore for day matches during her 2012 US Open run to the title.

Same goes for Venus Williams’ red and black corset-inspired looks in 2010. No other outfit would do for the only non-pink fit on our list considering EleVen—Venus’s own fashion label—has been forward moving the tennis fashion industry since its launch in 2007.

While EleVen recently announced it’s "pausing operations", Venus herself has always challenged tennis fashion—and this red spaghetti strap corset dress in Miami was no exception. Later in the season, the can-can dress turned black and lacey at 2010 Roland Garros, where she caused quite a stir due to the outfit's "illusion" of "bare skin".

“Lace has never been done before in tennis, and I’ve been wanting to do it for a long time,” she claimed in Paris. “The illusion of just having bare skin is definitely for me a lot more beautiful.”

Last but certainly not least is Ben Shelton in a white and neon pink outfit from On, which he wore at the 2023 US Open along with fellow brand ambassador Iga Swiatek—the only two players in the draw rocking a custom fit from the Swiss sportswear giant.

Not only did his Cinderella run into the semifinals reignite excitement for the next generation of American men’s tennis, but it also proved to be a successful fashion statement.
