Racquet: Head Speed MP 2024 ($299)

The Speed MP is a player favorite in the Head lineup. Thanks to its 330-ish swingweight, the racquet packs more punch and stability than its manageable static weight would suggest. This helps make it a natural from the baseline where serves have serious thump and ground strokes consistent depth and accuracy. A spin-friendly 16x19 string pattern presents the option of adding significant topspin to the formula for heightened control and heavier shots. New to this generation is the Auxetic 2.0: a carbon-fiber construction located in strategic parts of the frame to give it a friendlier feel at contact.

Perhaps not as refined as some thinner-beamed 98s, the MP is still plenty crafty when touch is needed and an asset from any area of the court. It’s the type of racquet that gives your game a boost without disrupting what you do best.

Apparel: NikeCourt Dri-FIT ADV Slam Polo ($105) and Shorts ($90)

Four-way stretch woven fabric, moisture-wicking technology, and a retro-inspired rugby look make this top an on-court triple threat.

The top’s flexibility allow it to move as you do, and its impressive breathability keeps you cool when the action heats up. A slim fit and hidden placket add style points to its high-performance credentials.

The shorts boost the same light feel and elasticity for unrestricted movement. The 6-inch inseam provides just enough coverage without causing any distraction. An elastic waistband with perforated mesh provides a secure comfortable fit, while the smooth trim and side hem vents prevent any undue friction.

Footwear: Nike GP Challenge 1 PRM ($180)

This latest in the GP franchise looks to capture the comfort and cushioning of previous versions, but with greater responsiveness and agility. Air Zoom units in the forefoot and heel provide a combination of court connection, protection and energy transfer. The breathable mesh upper is well-padded around the collar and has an integrated lacing system for a locked-in fit. A sturdy midfoot plastic shank serves to stabilize the shoe in and out of sharp lateral cuts. The full-length outsole has a modified herringbone design with thicker tread in high-wear zones and more give where needed for smoother sliding. The shoe contains several metallic finishes including a silver dubrae (shoelace tag) on the first set of eyelets.
