Former ATP world No. 8 Jack Sock left St. George, Utah, with some hardware, earning a silver medal in the men’s singles bracket at the PPA Red Rock Open.

Competing every day across the five-day tournament, Jack Sock dinked his way into the finals of the men’s singles bracket, falling short in men’s and mixed doubles ahead of semifinals Saturday.

After knocking out Novak Djokovic’s former hitting partner Connor Garnett in the semis, Sock faced former tennis pro and No. 2 seed Hunter Johnson in the gold medal match.

Johnson won the opening game 11-4, forcing Sock to tie up the game to stay in contention—which he did, winning the second game 11-8 and sending the men’s singles match into a deciding game.

With roaring friends from Major League Pickleball’s Phoenix Flames, Sock had the crowd rooting him on from the very first point.

“In Sock We Trust,” read the Flame.

Sock fell 2-6 down quickly in the deciding game, but a change of ends supported a momentum change as the 4-time ATP title winner took charge of the match, going up 7-6 in just five minutes.

Momentum shifted once more in the endgame, seeing Johnson through to his fourth singles gold medal with an 11-7 final game score. The No. 2 seed (not to mention world No. 2 in singles rankings) bumps his total singles medals for the year to double digits with this performance at Red Rock.

Sock, in the meantime, earns his first-career silver medal in Utah, totaling three medals to his name: this singles silver, a singles bronze, and a mixed doubles gold.
