The Break: Roger Federer shares his thoughts on Jannik Sinner's doping case

Talk about making a fashionable entrance.

All eyes were on Jannik Sinner on Tuesday evening in Milan, as he took a front-row seat at Gucci’s 2025 Fall/Winter fashion show.

The world No. 1 cut a stylish figure in an all-Gucci look and white Nike sneakers, sitting alongside fashion industry titan Anna Wintour, Editor-in-Chief of Vogue Global, and Xiao Zhan, a Chinese actor and singer.

A global ambassador for Gucci since 2022, the event marked Sinner’s first public outing since receiving a three-month ban related to two failed doping tests last March.

The Italian was initially handed no suspension from the ITIA after testing positive to clostebol, an anabolic steroid, after he was able to prove the contamination was unintentional. But following an appeal from WADA, who argued that he should be held accountable for the actions of his team, Sinner agreed to a settlement of his case and accepted the suspension.

Sinner had been gearing up to compete at the Qatar ExxonMobil Open, where he was billed as the top seed. Accepting the ban on February 15, however, meant he had to hang up his racquets immediately and head home.

According to WADA, the terms of Sinner’s suspension bar him from training with registered players, stepping foot into any venue that either hosts tennis tournaments or is affiliated with the Italian Tennis Federation, and more.

While that doesn’t leave too many options for Sinner, the 23-year-old has still found ways to fill his free time. He was recently spotted hitting the ski slopes near his native South Tyrol in northern Italy, where he snapped selfies with a young fan.

Sinner was even more in demand in Milan, with the likes of Wintour and billionaire François-Henri Pinault, CEO of Kering (Gucci) seen posing for photos with the player as Gucci kicked off the first day of fashion week.

Much like sidelined Sinner, Gucci finds itself in a transition period of sorts, too, after creative director Sabato de Sarno—the visionary behind the Sinner-centric “Gucci is a feeling” campaign—departed the fashion house in January. On Tuesday, its co-ed retro-themed collection was presented by the House’s studio team as it has yet to announce De Sarno’s replacement.

Sinner, meanwhile, is cleared to compete on May 4 and can return to training no earlier than April 13.
