Madison Keys checked in on social media Monday to update fans after her heartbreaking Wimbledon exit 24 hours ago.

“Well... The ending of yesterday's match was probably one of my toughest moments ever on court,” wrote Keys, who retired at 5-5 in the third set of her fourth round against Jasmine Paolini after serving for the match at 5-2.

Twice a quarterfinalist at the All England Club, Keys was looking in fine form despite dropping the first set to Paolini, who was a Roland Garros runner-up last month. After winning the second set in a tiebreaker, the American appeared to tweak her left leg after an awkward landing on a forehand miss. Despite taking a medical time out two games later, Keys continued struggling and left No. 1 Court in tears.

“Unfortunately during the match, I injured my hamstring. I'll be getting an MRI soon to see exactly what happened and what the severity of the injury is.

“I have a lot of mixed emotions that my Wimbledon ended like this and really appreciate all the nice messages l've gotten. Time to go home and get better.”

Keys has enjoyed a return to form on the major stage the last 12 months, nearly making the US Open last summer and posting strong results on clay, reaching the Mutua Madrid Open semifinals in May.

The 29 year old did not plan to participate in the Summer Olympic Games in Paris, and will surely aim to return to action in time for the US Open swing later this summer.
