Paula Badosa, Donna Vekic & more drop by Qatar for World Cup action 

Amid training blocks and vacation getaways, Paula Badosa took the trip of a lifetime this weekend to cheer on the Spanish national team at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

The Spaniard has been vacationing in the Maldives and Dubai with her boyfriend Juan Betancourt and posting up a storm during her off-season, having finished the season at Billie Jean King Cup ranked world No. 13.

But before getting back to training, the pair made time to show their support during Spain’s 1-1 draw with Germany in a crucial group match.

Badosa, who recently celebrated her 25th birthday, shared a series of Instagram Stories from Al-Bayt Stadium in Al Khor, showing off her VIP ticket, and snapping pictures in front of the playing field. Badosa and Betancourt also received a matching set of custom Spain kits, courtesy of the national tennis federation.

The break was short lived, as Badosa—who calls nearby Dubai her “second home”—was already posting workout videos from the gym a day later.

She wasn’t the only tennis star that has been spotted in the stands during the World Cup. A few days earlier, Donna Vekic shared this Instagram post from the same stadium, clad in Croatia’s famous checkerboard as she watched the team’s 0-0 draw with Morocco:

Two-time Grand Slam winner Victoria Azarenka has also been posting up a storm from Qatar all week.

The world No. 23 fulfilled her lifelong dream of watching Argentina's Lionel Messi play—although it didn't quite go according to plan—and later shared this artsy snap on Sunday:

While Azarenka was following Messi, Aisam ul Haq Qureshi, a doubles specialist from Pakistan, had an almost front-row view of Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal as the team romped past Ghana 3-2.

For die-hard Argentina fan Diego Schwartzman, it's been a World Cup vacation full of mixed emotions, after having to watch his country's shocking 2-1 upset to Saudi Arabia live and in person.

But things have greatly improved since the Albicelestes' opening disaster. Schwartzman, who was named after Argentina hero Diego Maradona, got to witness his team bounce back from the brink of elimination with a 2-0 victory over Mexico.

Even former world No. 1 Novak Djokovic has made an appearance at the World Cup... sort of.
