Novak Djokovic rewrote the tennis history books on Sunday, when he took down Casper Ruud in the Roland Garros final to clinch his 23rd Grand Slam trophy. The victory made him the first male player to win all Grand Slams at least three times, and he stands alone as the player with the most men's major singles trophies.

Some of the biggest stars in sports—including Tom Brady, Kylian Mbappe and Zlatan Ibrahimovic—travelled to Paris to take in the occasion and witness history in the stands on Court Philippe Chatrier.

And the tennis world was watching too. Moments after sealing the 7-6 (1), 6-3, 7-5 victory against Casper Ruud, congratulations were already pouring in for Djokovic as his rivals and peers acknowledged the massive achievement.

Rafael Nadal was among the first to fire off a congratulatory message, having been absent from the tournament for the first time since 2004 due to a hip injury. The 14-time Roland Garros champion called his rival's 23 major titles "a number that just a few years back was impossible to think about":

WTA world No.1 Iga Swiatek, who won her fourth Grand Slam trophy in the women's singles final on Saturday, was also quick to extend her congratulations for her fellow Roland Garros champ.

Djokovic will also join Swiatek atop the rankings, as he is set for a return to ATP world No. 1 on Monday after the victory.

Tennis legends also took to social media to share a tip of the hat for Djokovic, including Rod Laver, Martina Navratilova and Billie Jean King.

"Your skill and unwavering mental fortitude on all surfaces is astonishing," wrote Laver, adding a "kudos" to finalist Ruud for his performance.
