Stat of the Day: Andy Murray has beaten two Top 25 players in the same week for the first time since 2016

After undergoing multiple hip surgeries in 2018 and 2019, Andy Murray had beaten top players here and there, but not in the same week—until now, that is.

With wins over No. 23-ranked Nikoloz Basilashvili and No. 25-ranked Reilly Opelka in Sydney this week, this is the first time Murray has beaten multiple Top 25 players at the same tournament since his hip surgeries in 2018 and 2019—in fact, it’s the first time he’s done it since the 2016 ATP Finals, when he beat five Top 10 players in a row to win the season-ending title and finish the year at No. 1.

Murray is now through to the 69th ATP final of his career, where he’ll face another Top 25 player in Aslan Karatsev, who’s currently ranked No. 20.

Murray has a 46-22 record in his first 68 career finals, a .676 winning percentage.

That winning percentage in ATP finals is on par with fellow ‘Big 4’ members Roger Federer (103-54, .656), Rafael Nadal (89-37, .706) and Novak Djokovic (86-37, .699).

“It’s already been a great week for me, big progress from anything I’ve done in the last year or so, to string four matches together like this and against top players in Basilashvili and Opelka,” Murray told ATPTour.com.

“I’ll go for 47 tomorrow.”
