The American teenager is closing in on a Top 100 debut after making a pre-pandemic splash at the 2020 Delray Beach Open, where he reached the quarterfinals in his tour-level debut. Returning from lockdown to win his first Grand Slam main draw match at the US Open, Nakashima pushed eventual finalist Alexander Zverev to four sets.

Nakashima won his first two ATP Challenger titles in the following four months to keep in contention for a Next Gen Finals berth at the end of the season.

“All the top younger players are a part of it, so it would be a real honor to qualify there and compete with all those high-level guys that are around my age,” he told ATPTour.com.

Despite falling in the first round of Roland Garros qualifying, the 6'1" Nakashima scored his Wimbledon main-draw debut after knocking out former world No. 12 Viktor Troicki and former No. 10 Ernests Gulbis.
