The Tennis Traveler: Spend your off-season like the pros in Iceland, Spain, Cayman Islands and Dubai

This year, The Tennis Traveler has shared its favorite destinations near the tennis scene, so anyone lucky enough to be within distance of a tournament can make the most out of the city. It also not-so-discretely hinted at where to spot players when traveling.

Don’t thank us just yet, because this holiday season, we’ve put together the scoop on how to vacation like the pros. So before booking your holiday getaway, consider the following destinations, well known for player spottings and amazing activities, all over the world during this time of year.

Iceland For Two

Tsitsidosa kicked off their holiday vacation with a whale-watching expedition in Iceland.

The two got “lost in endless white,” as Paula Badosa’s Instagram caption states, and you can do the same. Tsitsidosa booked Whale Watching Hauganes for this day trip on the sea. Sailing in North Iceland—apparently the ideal location to see whales—this tour company is the oldest in Iceland.

Just 15 minutes off the harbor, and you’re already spotting whales. They have daily adventures throughout the month of December still available, so get your Tsitsidosa on and recreate their memories for yourself.

Sneak Peak to 2025: Stefanos Tsitsipas recently shared he will be participating in Wings For Life World Run on May 4, in Athens. That’s nearly four months to find flights and accommodations, confirm vacation hours at work, and train to participate for yourself among Greece’s No. 1 ranked player.

The Dodger Stadium Experience

For the second year in a row, Coco Gauff attended Tyler, The Creator’s annual L.A. musical festival at Dodger Stadium, Camp Flog Naw. She wasn’t shy about making her attendance known, especially since her name is featured in one of the artist’s latest releases.

Keep tabs on the 11^th edition of the festivities, scheduled for November 2025 on the official camp’s website, so that you’re celebrating the American’s [anticipated] success in person.

Spain by the Sea

Somewhere in between Iceland winter jackets and California sunshine was the weather in Tossa de Mar in Spain, where Zheng Qinwen has spent time exploring the coast.

Although she shared snippets of her sight-seeing around Catalonia, here’s an insight into what we believe her itinerary included.

In addition to wandering the city and indulging in local cuisine, Camí de Ronda is a historic hike with both a Northern and Southern experience that is highly encouraged for travelers, and offers breathtaking views of the town and Mediterranean Sea. So too is the highest point of Tossa de Mar, which can be found at the still-operational lighthouse, which is also a national historic monument. The Seventh Continent

A still fresh blast from the past is Caroline Garcia’s off-season escape to Antarctica—where even the tennis tour has yet to visit. Cold-water plunging in the arctic and living life among the emperors has set the bar high for player vacations.

Trips to Antarctica sell out quickly as there is limited space and few countries offering passage, so it might take another year or two until we see another player take on this adventure during their off-season.

We predict it will be twice as long for Tsitsidosa, as they spent this year vacationing with winter jackets and may prefer a chance of pace in 2025.

Country Hoping with the Dane

There are some who spend vacations plopped beach-side for five days in a row, and there are some who spend vacations exploring every nook in a new city. Then there is Holger Rune, who is spending his 2024 off-season country hopping from one hot-spot destination to another.

The Dane kicked off his vacationing jet-skiing in Dubai and pottering in the Maldives. He soon after returned to Europe, promising an appearance at Bog & idé, a local bookstore in Denmark on December 1, where he signed children’s books both by and about him.

On the same day, he continued his holiday traveling to Villa Copenhagen, where the Nordic Battle 2024 is taking place. Rune will take on Norway’s recently engaged Casper Ruud on December 3, then fly to the Ultimate Tennis Showdown Grand Final in London for one last hurrah.

Rune’s off-season vacation crosses several time zones in very little time, so it will take some effort to keep up with him. If anything, meet him at his final destination of 2024, Brisbane, Australia, where he kicks off the 2025 season at the Brisbane International of December 29.
