Petra Kvitova is an eight-time winner of the WTA's Karen Krantzcke Sportsmanship Award, chosen each year in a vote by her fellow players, and the Czech showed why on Friday at the Omnium Banque Nationale.

With her third-round match against Belinda Bencic, rained out on Thursday, early in a third set, Kvitova sprung into action when Bencic rolled her left ankle in the second game. The two-time Wimbledon champion ran to the side of the court and grabbed an ice bag, tending to Bencic on the court as chair umpire Damiano Torella called for the physio on his walkie talkie.

Kvitova helped lead Bencic to her chair, chatted with her, and kept ice applied as they waited for help to arrive.

The moment was widely praised on social media, with many tennis fans commenting on Kvitova's act of sportsmanship.

"A great credit to women's tennis," one fan wrote on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. "Brava!"

"Kvitova sitting with Bencic while she waits for the training staff is so wholesome," another wrote, while the tournament's official X account hailed Kvitova's "class."

After Bencic received medical treatment, the match resumed after a nearly 10-minute pause in play. The Swiss looked none the worse for wear in the aftermath, as she broke Kvitova's serve immediately upon resumption, and eventually won the match 6-7(3), 6-3, 6-1 in two hours, 57 minutes, to move on to the quarterfinals.

Perhaps in recognition of the moment, the pair shared a sweet embrace at the the net at the end of the match, and bumped fists as Kvitova passed Bencic in leaving the court.
