Belinda Bencic announced she would miss 2025 Roland Garros, citing a recurring arm injury on social media Friday.

“Just two days ago during a morning practice, I re-aggravated the arm injury that caused me to retire in Rome,” wrote Bencic, a former world No. 4.

“The very good news is that with two weeks of complete rest, I will be able to recover and heal fully, so I will do everything I can in that period to speed up the process and therefore see you soon on the grass!”

Bencic missed most of the 2024 season due to maternity leave, returning to action last fall following the birth of her daughter in April. The 28-year-old has posted strong results in her comeback, reaching the fourth round of the 2025 Australian Open—her first major outing since becoming a mom—and winning a WTA 500 tournament in Abu Dhabi.

She retired in the first round of the Internazionali BNL d’Italia to Maria Sakkari, having lost the first set, 6-2.

Bencic had been scheduled to face No. 12 seed Elena Rybakina in one of the most hotly anticipated first-round match-ups of the 2025 tournament. Both Bencic and Rybakina were in the same section of the draw as defending champion and No. 5 seed Iga Swiatek.

She will be replaced by qualifier Julia Riera.
