Frances Tiafoe parts ways with Wayne Ferreira, hires Diego Moyano as coach

Frances Tiafoe will have a new coach in 2024. The American announed this week that he and his coach of three years, former world No. 6 Wayne Ferreira, have split, and that he's now working with Diego Moyano.

Moyano, originally from Argentina, previously worked with players including Kevin Anderson and Coco Gauff, and also spent time as a coach with the USTA's player development program, where he worked with Reilly Opelka, Tommy Paul and Tiafoe.

On Thursday, the 25-year-old American called their reunion a "full-circle moment" in an Instagram post that announced their collaboration, while Moyano said he is "so excited, motivated, and with a lot of responsibility for this great challenge ahead of us" in his own post of a photo of the two on court in Boca Raton, Fla.

The 2022 US Open semifinalist also penned a farewell message to Ferreira, calling him "my guy." The pair first linked up in 2020, with Ferreira first coming on board as a co-coach with Zack Evenden, before taking over the role solo in 2021.

"Just wanted to say thanks to this guy," Tiafoe wrote in an Instagram story. "Three years shared together ... Sheesh, we had a ton of success. But sadly we've decided to part ways. Thanks for getting me to the player I am today. Nothing but love and respect for you."

Tiafoe reached new heights with Ferreira as his coach, namely, making his respective Top 20 and Top 20 debuts in 2022 and 2023, and winning two titles this year. Last year, he became the first American man to reach the singles semifjnalist at the US Open since Andy Roddick in 2006, beating Rafael Nadal and Andrey Rublev en route, before losing a five-set thriller to the evental champion, Carlos Alcaraz.

Moyano and Tiafoe are slated to make their tournament debut as coach and player in two weeks, as Tiafoe is entered in the ATP 250 event in Hong Kong.
