INTERVIEW: Maria Camila Osorio Serrano after her runner-up finish in Tenerife

This season has already been a huge step forward for Camila Osorio, but she is aiming to climb a lot higher.

The 19-year-old from Colombia finished her year with a run to the final of the Tenerife Open, defeating top seed Elina Svitolina in the first round to collect her first Top 10 win.

"It was the most important match of my career. It gave me confidence that I can play and compete against the best," Osorio told radio program 6AM.

She can also take plenty of confidence from the rest of her season, having started ranked No. 186 and now a career-high No. 53. She also won her first career title by taking her home event in Bogota, and gained plenty of experience competing on tour.

"When you play professionally, you know that you need to be 100 percent," said Osorio. "The mental part is fundamental and that's what I had to concentrate on the most."

And she wants it to be just the start.

"My goal is not to be Top 10, my dream is to be No. 1," she said. "If I want to be the best I have to improve physically, mentally, my shots—everything I can."

But when it comes to competitiveness, Osorio showed plenty in Tenerife, deciding to finish the tournament even though she was hampered by an abdominal injury.

"In the quarterfinals it began to bother me. By the final it was affecting me a lot," she said.

But she'll get some time during the off-season to recover, and is aiming to improve her play at the biggest events next season.

Osorio has not decided her exact tournament schedule.
