Larry Bird vs. Magic Johnson. Muhammad Ali vs. Joe Frazier. The Rock vs. “Stone Cold” Steve Austin. Those rivalries were admittedly bigger and better than the one between Alexander Zverev and Tallon Griekspoor, but there’s a little magic every time these two play, and they seem to play every single week.
Sure, Zverev is a top-five player in the world, and Griekspoor isn’t anywhere near the top of the rankings. But that hasn’t stopped them from playing highly-competitive, physical matches in the past, and there’s a good chance we see another at Roland Garros when they play in the fourth round this year.
It should be noted that Zverev is 7-2 against Griekspoor, so it’s not like the Dutchman consistently gets the better of the German. However, four of their last five matches have gone the distance. Griekspoor won when they met at Indian Wells, snapping a five-match losing streak against Zverev. And he also was broken serving for the match against Zverev in their most recent meeting in Munich, so he absolutely knows that he has what it takes to beat him.
